PROJECT OF APPEASEMENT ROOM
Eurêka School - Laval School Board
Creation of an appeasement room to help students who have behavior management difficulties and deficit disorders. The room of appeasement or clean room allows the schoolchild to calm down when the need arises and help him to reintegrate the classroom to be ready to learning.
BULLYING AND VIOLENCE PREVENTION CAMP, Village des Sources
Marie-Reine School – Région-de-Sherbrooke School Board
This camp is held in the wild with various activities to help youngsters develop physical abilities to better know themselves through moments of reflection and dialogue.
There are three goals:
- Welcoming youngsters as they are with respect to help them get a fresh take on themselves and on others.
- Promoting dialogue with peers and seeing what, in their actions and words, is feeding anger, disregard and rejection, while taking a critical look at their own ways of doing things.
- Awakening the will for community commitment and promoting confidence and respect, while acting as a peace officer.
FLEXIBLE CLASS
Fleur-des-Neiges School – Laurentides School Board
”Learning is made easier when the child is happy,” Katrina Ménard, Teacher. Video of the project
Provide students with a flexible working environment to fill their need to move. During the day, students may sit in different parts of the class–on stools, balls, cushions. Purchase of stations with which students sit on the floor with excellent support for the back. Purchase of swivel stools to let students move without disrupting others and promote good posture.
COOKING WORKSHOPS
Pléiade School – Premières-Seigneuries School Board
The school’s three special education classes had cooking workshops. These workshops motivate students while developing different skills (e.g. fine motor skill, healthy lifestyles, etc.) and acquiring knowledge from the Training Program for Quebec Schools (Programme de formation de l’école québécoise) (e.g. reading, fractions, etc.) within a different learning environment. Various healthy recipes are made all year long.
FIELD TRIP TO THE MONTREAL BOOK FAIR (SALON DU LIVRE DE MONTRÉAL)
Pierre-de-Lestage High School - Samares School Board
This cultural field trip was the opportunity for eight grade students to come into contact for the first time with a great variety of books and authors, and maybe trigger a passion for reading.
RECORDING STUDIO FIELD TRIP
Alphonse-Pesant School – Pointe-de-l'Île School Board
The educational visit at Station7 (Cité-écoute) made the students of Ms. Sylvie Joyal’s class discover the world of radio in which professionals work. It was a great opportunity to improve their French skills and several other subject areas in a motivating environment. These fourth grade students appreciated their experience and they want to do it again!
CULINARY BRIGADE
Académie les Estacades – Chemin-du-Roy School Board
The culinary Brigades (Brigades Culinaires) students got to work to produce no less than 2,000 ginger bread cookies to celebrate the Christmas season and some well-deserved vacation. After four days of making cookies, the treats were distributed with great enjoyment on December 21, 2017. Students and staff roamed the floors of the Académie and went door-to-door to proudly hand out cookies and holiday wishes.
CULTURAL VISIT TO NEW YORK
Leblanc High School – Laval School Board
As a training supplement to Leblanc High School's theatre concentration in Laval, the cultural visit to New York was the opportunity for students to broaden their theatrical knowledge by seeing a top Broadway production.
WHEN STACKS BECOME BOOKS
Maria School – Lac-Saint-Jean School Board
The goal of this project is to expand the school’s library with appealing books adapted to new readers to help get children interested in reading, since learning is based on reading strategies. The primary funding approach is to collect stacks of used books, then recycle and sell them to buy brand new books.
ROBOTICS PROJECT
Marguerite-De Lajemmerais High School – Montréal School Board
The goal of this project is to create the first female “FIRST LEGO League” team in Quebec. The project’s mission is to inspire young girls to become science and technology leaders by getting them involved in a fascinating program aimed at developing skills in science, engineering and technology.
MORNING SPORTS
Jeunes-du-Monde School – De la Capitale School Board
This sports project involves about fifty fourth to sixth grade students showing up before classes for a game with balls. This morning project has helped significantly reduce interpersonal conflicts in the schoolyard before school starts. Children taking part in the project develop social skills such as respect for others, collaboration and mutual help, civic spirit, sense of belonging to a group, and motor skills.
HEALTHY CANTEEN PROJECT
St-Julien School – Lac-Saint-Jean School Board
This project involved first grade students that make healthy snacks and sell them (at a low price) to other students at the school. This is a time for children to work on collaboration, listening skills, and manual dexterity. They learn about new varieties of fruits, vegetables, and dairy products. They develop oral communication and math skills. With this project, youngsters get an alternative to learning from traditional school manuals.
